deviantID

My alias is Meritha Seridot.
My real name is Anna.

Nationality: Chinese, Cantonese.
Colors: Purple, Black, Yellow.
Likes: Cats, Nature, Steampunk, Fantasy.
Music: Electronica, Psychadelic, Alternative.
Interests: Poetry, Novels, Web Design, Illustration.

I am sentimental, timid, critical, stubborn.
I like to indulge in the little mundane things in life like the feeling of sunshine on your skin when it hits your bed and you roll around in it. Or the smell of fresh grass at an empty park.

Some things I like are absurd.
I love fairy tales whether heart-breaking or happy.
I never want to grow old. But I like to mature.
I am maybe too honest.

I probably think too much. I probably pelt people with too many "whys", not to be annoying, but because I really am that curious. And it saddens me I'll never understand everything that is in the world. But I'll understand as much as I can.

I am generally a friendly person. I am just shy.
So do not be afraid to speak to me.

I randomly take a long hiatus from DA, unexpectedly from time to time. So if I don't reply or thank you,
I apologize in advance.

Tender Morsels

Recently, I've gotten back into the habit of reading.
Only downside is that I'm not getting enough sleep since I read before I sleep, and it takes away time from drawing. I finished reading "Tender Morsels" by Margo Lanagan some while ago. And I loved it.

I'm warning that I might spoil some parts further in this journal.
And that I'm ranting. It is definitely not a book for the faint of heart.
There are certain disturbing parts. Though I did not have a problem with any. Perhaps the one part that really did bother me was the revenge. Even though I hated the men for what they did.

The ending was unexpected, it broke my heart.
I've never cried so much over a book before.
Surely, it was not the worse ending ever. After all, Liga had friends, a home, and an occupation which she was not so fortunate to have in the beginning. Her daughters were happy. She is very fortunate. However, the ending broke my heart mainly because I fell in love (not literally but character-wise) with Liga throughout the book. I found myself building up hope in myself as I read that she would have a happier ending because I felt like she really deserved it for all she had went through. I felt she deserved to know how it felt to be loved by a man when most of her life, she had only feared them.

And it was gone over something such as age. A number? An exterior?
I found myself reading the ending over and over in disbelief.
And in my head, I pondered over the "what ifs". If only Annie had never helped Dought into her heaven. If only there was a way for Miss Dance to pull their ages back to what they should be. If only Teasel never ate Dought. I did not feel an emotional connection between Davit and Branza and that's why I did not like the ending for it was so sudden.
If Davit were still to be with Todda.
Or if Davit had married another woman.
But being with Liga's own daughter?
My heart broke for Liga.

Perhaps the ending is realistic.
And that would happen if some situation like that were to occur in real life. And probably because it may be like that, I was upset. That perhaps people are not truly that true in reality? And perhaps there are the few that are. That something such as age can easily take love away? I did not know what to think but I am one to think too much anyway. It wasn't a book I could set aside and forget about right after I finish.

Otherwise, I had mentioned I loved the book.
I enjoyed reading it. There are beautiful parts as there are saddening.
I loved reading about Liga's heaven and sometimes, I found myself in such a place in my mind and wished I was really there. I loved reading of all the little things Branza and Urdda did when they were children. And the fact the book was able to make me cry and think about it for quite some time made it quite memorable. I'm quite sure it's not going to be one of those books where I end up forgetting.

If you know of any good fantasy or sci-fi books.
Please do recommend.
